Born Genevieve Dorothea Gauss on April 22, 1985 in Long Beach, California to parents Jere Donn Gauss, a retired aerospace engineer, and Deborah Ann Gauss (nee Kuester), a homemaker. She has two younger sisters, Alyssa and Emily.
As a teenager, Genevieve became interested in both acting and singing so she auditioned at Roger Rocka’s Dinner Theater in Fresno’s Tower District. A soprano, she starred as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Victoria in Cats, and Miss Scarlet in Clue: The Musical. She also understudied Maria in The Sound of Music and The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
In the midst of those performances, Genevieve decided that she wanted to make performing into a career, so she moved to Los Angeles and auditioned as a performer at Disneyland. She worked at the resort for seven years as various costumed characters, in parades, puppet shows, and as a character host. It wasn’t enough for her, though. Through a friend she discovered how to get into background work in television and film through the Central Casting agency, eventually earning her vouchers and securing a SAG-AFTRA membership.
She’s performed as background in films such as Guardians of the Galaxy: vol 2 and Captain Marvel, and TV shows like Mad Men, Speechless, The Goldbergs, American Housewife, The Mindy Project, and many others.
In fall 2017, Genevieve secured her first speaking role in a film, starring in the short indie musical ‘Pretty Pretty Prison’. She used her experience in musical theater to serve as dance captain for the production. The film was screened at many film festivals throughout the world and won 7 awards with 3 nominations.
Meanwhile Genevieve had started appearing as a background actor portraying a uniformed cop on the set of Lucifer which had just moved its production to Los Angeles for season three. Her natural and nuanced reactions during scenes caught the eyes of assistant director Lisa Demaine and writer/producer Mike Costa who later wrote the character of Officer Cacuzza for her starting in the fourth season. Demaine directed Genevieve’s first credited episode, ‘Save Lucifer’.
Genevieve lives in Los Angeles with her husband Michael, three rescue cats Mr. Tumnus, Westley, and Shuri, and a retired racing greyhound named Xena. She is a part time variety Twitch streamer by the name of “GenTheSpaceWitch”.
